Welcome
Welcome to Ode To Azia, an official website 100% dedicated to the multitalented Asia Argento!
Ode to Azia started as a small fansite in 2003, kept growing over the years, and has since then become the largest resource for Ms. Argento on the internet. It's been an authorized Asia Argento fansite from the beginning, but it recently become her second official online home.
Ode to Azia is a bit like Asia Argento herself: not everyone may like us, but we're here to stay!
I hope that new visitors will leave the site with a better knowledge and appreciation of Ms. Argento and her work. And I also hope that old time fans will keep coming back for their Az fix.
While we're at it, I'd like to remember you all that I'm always looking for contributions, so please consider donating scans, videos, anything.
Asia is featured in the April issue of Matrix. I only have a scan from the photo they used in the article, but not the article itself. If anyone has it, please send in a scan!
Many thanks to Elmira who sent me these scans from Vogue Russia and Mirik who scanned them.
I truly appreciate when visitors contribute. All contributions are welcome! People like Elmira, Mirik, Sandra, Federico, Bea, Lorna, Enrico (Merlo), Stef, Audrey, just to name a few (sorry if I’m not naming everyone — I’m only mentioning those who collaborated recently but it doesn’t mean that your past contributions weren’t appreciated), help me to make this site even better.
Believe it or not, Entertainment Weekly reviewed “Mother of Tears” in their Summer Movie Preview and gave it a 6/6! Who would have thought that a mainstream American magazine like EW would give it a PERFECT rating? Really cool, don’t you think? Thanks to my friend Mycah for the scan.
The helpful Sandra emailed me again to let us know that there’s a two page article on “Diamant 13″ in this month’s Ciné Live (issue #122). There are few on-set photos in it, including one of Gérard Depardieu and Asia’s profile. The director also tells us why he chose Asia to replace Valeria Golino: because she has a wild side, she is a femme fatale, she’s very sensual. The magazine also shares a little anedocte: there’s a scene in which Asia is in a car and she’s supposed to park it (she pretend to park on her own and technicians helped to push manage the car), but she forgot to unlock the brake, and they thought it was funny.
“De La Guerre”, directed by Bertrand Bonello, will be shown at the Director’s Fortnight. Whether or not Asia will be present at the Festival is still a mystery.
Many thanks to Sandra for sending in scans from the February 28th issue of Obstyles. I had posted a transcription of the article here, but we didn’t have any scans. It features a new photoshoot.
Many thanks to Enrico (Merlo) for the scans from Sette dating from 2001, when Asia was pregnant with Anna. I’ve also added scans from Carnet from the same period.
I didn’t post anything about it before, because Asia only came public about it now. And I try to stay away from gossip. I’m very happy for Asia, Michele and Anna Lou and wish them all the best! Congratulations!!!
Rome, April 18th 2008 — Asia denied that she and Italian-American director Michele Civetta got married in London a couple of weeks ago, like some tabloids reported. But she confirms a new pregnancy and also that she decided to get married for the first time during the summer in Italy. Asia is currently 4 months pregnant.
The couple has been dating for almost one year and they have worked together in the past when they were both in other relationships. Michele directed the Sean Lennon video “Friendly Fire” that featured Asia. But it wasn’t until last year that they got together.
They’ll work together again soon in Civetta’s long feature debut, “Coin Locker Babies”, based on the novel by Ryû Murakami and co-written with Sean Lennon among others. The story tells the adventures of two young men who were abandoned in their infancy and seek revenge on their mothers.
The wedding will be celebrated in a civil ceremony and in a private way. Only their families and closest friends will attend it.
Asia wanted to protect her relationship from the journalists and the tabloids, and also to protect her daughter Anna Lou (whose father is Italian musician Marco Castoldi, Asia’s former longtime boyfriend). She’s very happy with this second pregnancy and she’s certain that she’s found her soul mate. So for the first time she feels ready to tie the knot.
And here’s a very lovely and exclusive picture of Asia and Michele taken earlier this year. I hope that you’ll all enjoy it as much as I do!
Now that the happy news spread and were confirmed, I’ll keep avoiding all other kinds of gossip as usual and I ask you to try to respect the couple’s privacy too. Michele is a very private person. And they both deserve to be happy and have a calm and nice pregnancy. I’ll be only posting official news regarding this subject. No gossips, ok?
The Asia Argento vs. Antipop, Archigram & Friends CD that I’ve mentioned here before came out in stores last week and is now available digitally too. Thanks to Dave from Milan Records, we have some exclusive treats! He kindly sent me an MP3 of “Vampy” (the song is available as a .zip file in the gallery) and also a photo of Asia from which the CD cover is derived from! Thank you again Dave!
The whole EP can be downloaded on iTunes or bought from Amazon! Give it a try!!!
Today I bring you an exclusive picture from the video shot by German director Manuel Werner for the “Live Fast Die Old” track that Asia did with the German band MUNK that is supposed to come out in the summer.
PS: I re-opened registrations for the gallery but closed the comments. Why? Because unfortunately I had been getting spammers. I loved reading your comments but I’m sick of deleting spam and links to strange sites every single day. I thought that closing the registrations for a while would help, but apparently the spammers had already been there for a while without posting. I hope I’ll find another solution to the problem.
Vincent Gallo, Ray Liotta and Asia Argento won’t be doing “Giallo” after all. But they’ve been replaced by a very good cast: Adrien Brody and Emmanuelle Seigner. Elsa Pataky is still on board.
After resurrecting the St Trinian’s franchise at the cinemas over Christmas, Rupert Everett is to return to his roots as a serious stage actor this winter when he tours in Noël Coward’s Private Lives.
It will stretch the actor’s linguistic skills because it will be performed in Italian and play in Rome, Naples, Palermo, Milan and Genoa. Everett will play Elyot to the Italian actress Asia Argento’s Amanda.
Asia is on the cover of the the Spring 2008 issue of American magazine Spread Artculture. I don’t have scans from it yet. Only a preview. If someone has this magazine, please consider donating scans. I’m not sure if I’ll be able to find it where I live.
She jokes that she has played all the vampires, crazies and killers, but Asia Argento still knows how to shock
James Mottram
In Asia Argento’s latest film, The Last Mistress, there’s an exchange that could almost have been written by the Italian diva herself. Attending a costume party in 19th-century Paris, her character - the flamboyant Spanish temptress Vellini - is wearing a scarlet and orange dress, complete with horns on the shoulders. “You came as a she-devil?” she is asked. “No - the devil!” she replies. “I hate anything feminine.” Daughter of the legendary Italian horror moviemaker Dario Argento and former lover of the madman actor Vincent Gallo, it’s tempting to think there’s something slightly satanic about the 32- year-old Argento. “I’ve played all the prostitutes, all the call girls, all the killers, all the crazies, all the vampires,” she giggles.
