Asia Argento: Scandalous Mom - May 16th 2004"Working with the kids was one of the most beautiful and difficult moments of my life. They were three who were performing Jeremiah, but considering the subject matter I wanted to know them outside the set too to make them believe that we were shooting a Disney-like movie." This way, in a crowded press conference, Asia Argento, dark short hair, talks about the child protagonist of the movie 'The Heart Is Deceitful Above All Things', which was shown yesterday in Cannes, at the Quinzaine des Réalisateurs. By her side, almost her double (blond wig and black glasses), JT Leroy, the American writer whose book Argento based her movie which was produced by the American Cjhrois Hanley and Wild Bunch together with the Italian Gianluca Curti. "The children" continues Argento on the difficulty found during the shooting "aren't like Italians who work in the film world: Americans are always followed by their parents who always have them under their sight like bulldogs."
The movie tells the story of a lost young woman (Asia
Argento), blond hair, high heels and committer of all possible vices,
drugs included obviously, who tears away from his foster
parents a son she had abandoned and takes him away with her
on the road. Jeremiah, that's the child's name, passes from a
life of normality to a true hell. The mother gives herself to
a lot of men, even in his presence, makes him take drugs,
dresses him as a woman and the child ends up being sexually
abused. When Jeremiah, after the violence, goes live in his
grandparents's house (Peter Fonda and Ornella Muti), very
religious people, things don't get better because the
violence is now done through religious integralism. And it
doesn't get better when the child meets Marilyn Manson as a
religious fanatic. (Asia is supposed to shoot a video for him
and then make a movie for Gus Van Sant about Kurt Cobain's
life)
